Deliveroo Car Driver Requirements – The 4 things you need to Know

Delivering food is a fun job, no doubt. But as with any job, it requires proper analysis, technique and care to make it.

For a driver who wants to switch from delivering with a two-tyre vehicle to a car, you might need to know about the requirements, so you don’t make any silly mistakes that could cost your application.

And of course, so you can make proper preparation for them.

This article will cover the basics you need to know about delivering on Deliveroo with a car alongside any requirements.

Deliveroo Car Driver Requirements: Explained

If you’re coming from a car rental background, it’s very common to see companies putting strict requirements on cars before they can get listed.

Things like age, brands, mileage, model and the list goes on.

Now, when it comes to delivery companies, the case is different.

And for a platform like Deliveroo, which is less strict in its application rules and policy, that’s an edge.

Typically, on Deliveroo there are no strict requirements made particularly for Car Drivers.

So, what are these “less strict” requirements?

Firstly, bare it in mind that you need to pay for insurance. While this is not exclusive to car drivers, as motorbikes and scooters also need to pay for them, it’s important you’re aware.

The car you intend to use also needs to be well registered and most likely have your details in them.

However, if it doesn’t, it might not be much of a problem as most companies ( \for instance, Doordash), could allow a driver to use someone else’s car as long as they’re permitted.

But then, that’s only applicable as long as the car is not stolen.

Thirdly, driver’s license… Of course. You need to own one, and it shouldn’t be suspended, expired or have any limit or the other. You might also need to have some experience driving cars for a while to get your application approved faster.

What about requirements for car models, etc?

Well, as we said earlier, Deliveroo doesn’t have strict restrictions, bars or limits for these measures. You can use most types of cars.

Lastly, keep in mind that while you use cars you’re responsible for fueling. Deliveroo no longer pays for that. For this reason, you may want to evaluate whether delivering in a car is worth it or not.

The Standard Requirements for Joining Deliveroo

Now, dropping cars aside, what are the standard requirements for aspirants looking to join Deliveroo?

Let’s take a quick look at them below.

Firstly, you should be above 18 years. This shouldn’t be news to anyone, as it’s pretty much the standard for most jobs. In fact, the age bracket can be steeper in rare cases.

After this you need to fulfill the following requirements:

Right to work

As a Deliveroo driver, It’s worth mentioning that you’re seen as self-employed. This means that you’ll be in charge of paying your taxes and doing most stuff normal self-employed do.

But that’s not the topic here.

Before joining you’d need to provide proof of your right to work in the UK. You can read David Morrison‘s article on this.

But basically, you’d need one of the following:

• Biometric residence permit number
• Biometric residence card number
• Passport
• National identity card and the list goes on.

A smartphone

Any slightly modern phone would be accepted here.

The caveat is that you have a mobile phone, because you’ll be needing them to confirm delivery on Google Maps or any maps app you might be using.

However, according to the company’s words, you need a phone that’s at least iOS 13.6 (for Apple devices) or 6.0 for Androids.

Also, if you’re going to be delivering from bicycles, motorbikes, scooters or just any two tyre-powered vehicles, you might want to consider getting a phone that has a small width, so they can fit your vehicle properly.

Things like iPads won’t make it here.

A vehicle

Of course, you need to have a vehicle.

In case you are a mistold, no delivery company (nor does Deliveroo, to be specific) gives out bikes, or some other vehicles.

If you’d be doing Deliveroo you’ll need to get yourself a vehicle. This can be anything from a bicycle to scooters and to cars, as we’ve been tutoring in this blog post so far.

How to Join or Switch to Deliveroo as Car Driver

Coming back to cars, how can you get started on Deliveroo as an intended car driver on the platform?

Before anything else, it’s important we understand that there are two scenarios here.

• People who want to have a change of vehicle — they’ve already been delivering, but want to switch things up from whatever they might be using for delivery to cars.
• People who are yet to join the platform.

For people looking to change their vehicles, you’d have to fill out this form.

If you’re yet to join the platform, here are things you need to do…

Firstly, make sure you’ve met the aforementioned requirements for both cars and normal delivery guys (standard requirements)

Afterwards, you can go on to create your Deliveroo account online.

As you go on, you’ll need to fill in some information about yourself and your car. This may include your driver’s license, driver’s record, etc.

It’s also worth it that just like Doordash and other delivery companies, Deliveroo would still have to perform a background check on you.

Unlike Doordash, however, Deliveroo background check is less strict but would however pay much attention to any criminal activity or significant driving penalty or ticket.

If you’re done, you have to wait for a few days (in most cases, in a week) to hear from them.

Once you’re approved, you can start accepting delivery requests through the app. You’ll be able to choose your own hours and work as much or as little as you want, depending on your availability.

Final Thoughts

Unlike some other delivery platforms, Deliveroo’s requirements are much fairer. If you’d be using a car, you don’t have to worry about any model, age, or mileage specification, as long as you have your insurance, and driver’s license as well as satisfy other requirements needed to join the platform.
